Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is produced by CastelGiocondo of Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi using the Sangiovese grape. Castelgiocondo is one of the five prestigious estates owned by the Frescobaldi family that, fully respecting the Tuscan tradition, harvests manually, choosing only the best grapes. The history of Brunello di Montalcino begins in 1800 in Montalcino where Clemente Santi began experimenting with a clone of Sangiovese: Sangiovese Grosso, called ‘brunello’ because of the dark colour of the berries. The legend of Brunello developed thanks to his grandson Ferruccio Biondi-Santi who began began to produce wine selecting only the best grapes and creating, around 1870, a delicate yet powerful red wine. Today Brunello di Montalcino is famous around the world and represents a point of excellence of Italian enology. The protagonist of the first documented tasting in the history of Brunello was Castelgiocondo. Carried out in 1875 by the Ampelography Committee of Siena (charged with the identification and classification of grapevines), it was Castelgiocondo 1843 Brunello, a wine of 32 years with the following characteristics:
