The initial vintage of Ammiraglia was 2006. Made one hundred per cent from Syrah grapes grown in limestone-clay soils rich in pebble and rock, its soul is the most Mediterranean of all of the Frescobaldi estates. It is an emphatic, full-bodied wine boasting impressive, well-ripened fruit and pungent spice.
The vineyards were subjected to high temperatures during the summer and reduced rainfall. The growing season was particularly dry, which favoured an excellent development of the Syrah grapes. Beautiful sunny days, abundant sunlight, and the mitigating effect of afternoon sea breezes all helped the grapes develop a rich, aromatic bouquet.
Clear and consistent, Ammiraglia 2012 is intense ruby red in colour with light scarlet hues. The wine initially presents itself with Black and red fruit aromas such as blackberries, wild strawberries and currants before progressing into dark chocolate notes with spiced nuances of both vanilla and toasted hazelnuts. In the mouth, the wine reveals a significant, well-blended and balanced tannin presence. Persistent, Ammiraglia 2012 leaves the palate on a clean, fresh and pleasantly fruity note.
In this area the quantity of sun and light reaches high levels and combines with sea breezes, creating particulary favourable conditions for Syrah. In order to intensify the unique nature of this territory, it was realized a catchment that gathers the water and allows to refresh the vines in the driest years. The combination of all these factors is represented by a great variety and abundance of fragrances, which are unique in Tuscany.
