Pietraregia Morellino Riserva is a smooth, stylish wine that was launched with the 2006 harvest. Multi-layered, complex, and firmly structured, it has proved impressive for its overall elegance and for its seductive character, qualities classic to the great red wines produced in the Maremma.

Vintage Report

At the Ammiraglia Estate plant growth did not commence in earnest until the beginning of April for the earlier starters and the middle of the month for the others, registering a 15 day delay when compared to 2012. Around July, temperatures aligned themselves to yearly averages and the grapes had the opportunity to develop in a dry climate while benefitting from the water reserves from previous months. August was particularly sunny, without being excessively hot. The first week of the month, the warmest of the year, saw the beginning of the veraison stage. The sun and heat in August helped with the fruit’s ripening. In September, due to significant temperature differences and a lack of rainfall, the ripening concluded its process with both rich concentration of polyphenols and aromas, and perfectly healthy grapes.

Tasting Notes

Pietraregia 2013 is rube red with crimson highlights. To the nose, the wine expresses floral notes of violet accompanied by fruity plums, cherries and raspberries, which then give away to pleasant spiced nuances of pepper and cinnamon and a dominantly balsamic finish accented by a liquorish accent.

Serving suggestions

Stewed meat like rabbit or chicken, also excellent with medium-aged cheese.
