Pietraregia Morellino Riserva is a smooth, stylish wine that was launched with the 2006 harvest. Multi-layered, complex, and firmly structured, it has proved impressive for its overall elegance and for its seductive character, qualities classic to the great red wines produced in the Maremma.

Vintage Report

The wine-growing year was characterised by high temperatures during the summer season and limited rainfall. The particularly dry seasonal cycle was favourable for the harmonious development of the grapes. Although harvesting was very long, our grapes remained in perfectly healthy condition up to the end, the first step in achieving good wines. It was an excellent season for the Ammiraglia wine estate, which benefited from the mitigating action of the afternoon sea breezes. Thanks to the fine days there was outstanding luminosity, which favoured the formation of aromas in the grapes.

    Tasting Notes

    Pietraregia 2012 is ruby coloured with purple reflections. Entry on the nose expresses floral notes of sweet violet and fruity notes of plum, cherry and raspberry. These then give way to pleasant hints of pepper and cinnamon. The vinous end is dominated by balsamic blends enhanced by liquorice undertones. In the mouth the tannic texture is agreeably dense. Pietraregia is a broad-shouldered wine, solid and long at the end, with a dash of coffee and toasted hazelnuts.
